CANCELED: Summer 2021 Classes

Our summer is broken into three different and unique sessions. Each session, we offer two different courses. The specific sessions these courses are offered is shown under each course. Each class will meet either in the afternoon (1-3 PM) or evening (5-7 PM).  Times are in Central Standard Time (CST) unless noted otherwise.

Classes cost $225 each. Sessions run for 2 weeks, one class each day for a total of 10 classes per session, or 20 hours of total instruction. Each class will have a cap of twelve students. Please note that we are offering fewer classes than previous years. We are expecting classes to fill up fast, so make sure to sign up early.

All of our classes are designed for all students ages 11-15, but those who are older will have greater expectations and more advanced and nuanced feedback.

If you would like to suggest a class, contact us at help@impulselearning.org. We also offer a 10% sibling discount if you have multiple children in our classes. Contact us if this applies to you at help@impulselearning.org!

Data Deconstruction: The Science behind the Numbers

Who is the best NBA team? What song is the most popular? Where is the best donut shop in town? Although each person has their own opinion on these different controversial topics, their ideas cannot be generalized for all people. People’s judgments are blinded by their emotions and senses: vision, smell, and taste. Despite all the bias, there must be a definite way to figure out what people like and dislike. This is where numbers come into play. Through the use of technology such as Sheets and Excel, students will learn how to visualize data and solve problems using data. Also, they will gain the skill of presenting their research in a persuasive manner. In the end, students will be able to analyze data effectively. Why? Because numbers don’t lie.

Academic Reading and Writing

Book reports are a thing of the past. This course will teach students to go beyond summaries and inferences that are common in middle school essays. Students will become academic readers and write through the power of literary analysis. In the first part of the class, students will learn how to analyze for themes, write strong thesis statements, and integrate quotes. In the second half, students will write their own high school style paper! We will read The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien which will be given to students at the start of class and will be assigned as homework to read throughout the course.
